Small Business Saturday UK is a national initiative to encourage people to use and support local independent shops and businesses in their own communities. The event, which is now in its second year, takes place on the first shopping Saturday each December, although the campaign aims to have a long-lasting impact on small business awareness all year round. In 2014 the event will take place on Saturday 6 December.
Last year New Forest District supported the first Small Business Saturday in the UK by providing free parking in the District’s town and village car parks. This year, the Council has agreed to repeat the initiative and therefore car parking charges will again be suspended on Saturday 6 December in NFDC car parks. Please note that these arrangements are in addition to the suspension of NFDC car parking charges to assist locally arranged events on other days leading up to Christmas.
Small Business Saturday will also be used to celebrate Lymington’s award as 2015 Brand New Forest Town of the Year and to launch the 2015 Brand New Forest Card. We will therefore be encouraging all Brand New Forest cardholders to visit local towns & villages to take advantage of the spending power of their card in the run up to Christmas.
Many towns will be holding special events across the UK to celebrate small business and it is hoped that you will alll take advantage of the free parking to encourage local spending on that day in your town and village and help spread the word far and wide.
