Green Open Doors is an opportunity for anybody interested in saving energy to see sustainable technologies (insulation, solar, heat pumps, wood fuel etc) in action and speak to the homeowners who enjoy their benefits.
The event, organised by the New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest Transition, sees eleven properties opening their doors throughout the weekend of 4 and 5 October. The properties offer visitors the chance to find out more about a range of energy saving measures, including:
- Solar panels
- Heat pumps
- Energy efficient lighting
- Wood burning stoves
- Rainwater harvesting.
Entry to all houses is free and no booking is required, with homeowners on hand to answer any questions on the pros and cons of their property’s environmentally friendly features.
John Pemberton, Green Open Doors participant said: ‘This is a good opportunity for us to show what can be done to reduce energy usage and use renewable sources of energy. Not only can people save themselves money in the long term, they will also help to preserve the future of environmentally sensitive areas like the New Forest by reducing the use of oil and gas fuels.’
To see a map of the properties, opening times and details of each one, visit www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/greenopendoors. The website also contains information on how to open your own house as part of this year’s event.
For those looking for a preview of some of the properties in this year’s event, there is a new series of videos showing interviews with some of the home owners and an insight into the most effective energy saving measures at www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/greenvideos.
